Suspect detained after standoff with SWAT, police in Harrison Twp.

HARRISON TOWNSHIP, Ohio ( WDTN ) — Police have a man in custody after a standoff that lasted just over three hours Thursday night.

Police say they were called out to the 5000 block of Embassy Place earlier in the day on reports of domestic abuse. A few hours, later they were called out again on reports of shots fired.

According to Montgomery County Regional Dispatch, the second call came in at 6:35 p.m.

Shortly after that time, a viewer called into the 2 NEWS newsroom stating that her son “is being surrounded by police.”

2 NEWS crews were first to the scene seeing multiple officers with Dayton and Riverside police departments. SWAT, Ohio State Highway Patrol and Five Rivers MetroParks Rangers were on scene.

Deputies, SWAT and hostage negotiators worked to negotiate with the suspect, who refused to come out of an apartment. Authorities told 2 NEWS that deputies witnessed the suspect firing shots and recognized him from a felonious assault case.
