DAYTON, Ohio ( WDTN ) — A Dayton woman who was the victim of quit claim deed fraud recently won her case, but says the county auditor has yet to follow court orders.
Fraudulent quit claim deed cases usually involve multiple offices to untangle. Raevene Wiggins says after getting this far, she didn’t think there would still be issues.
“This property has been in my family for…40 years,” said Wiggins. “So this is pretty much like the last thing that I have of my grandmother…my uncle. So that’s why it means so much to me.”
Quit claim deed fraud claims another victim as issue grows
In June of last year, she began renovations but soon discovered her home was no longer in her name. Instead, it had been transferred by a fraudulent quit claim deed just days before.
Wiggins filed her lawsuit the next day. She says she spent thousands of dollars on the case, and she won.
On Sept. 22 of last year, she was awarded ownership of her home. But then, another issue surfaced.
In her court awarded order, it directs the Montgomery County Auditor to take all necessary actions to remove the fraudulent quit claim deed. However, the office says that’s not how it works.
