Fans in Two Major U.S. Cities Could Miss Super Bowl Due to Carriage Dispute

DirecTV customers in two major U.S. cities may need to find alternative ways to watch Super Bowl LVIII this coming Sunday.

Why is that, exactly?

According to Awful Announcing’s Andrew Bucholtz this Saturday afternoon, a carriage dispute between DirecTV and Cox Media Group is still unresolved heading into Super Bowl Sunday. Specifically, DirecTV users in Seattle, Washington and Dayton, OH may be impacted.

As with many carriage disputes, both sides appear to be pointing the finger at each other.

“Cox put out a press release on Jan. 25 saying that DirecTV is trying to ‘harm local journalism’ with its proposed deal,” The Street’s Colin Salao wrote in January.

Here was DirecTV’s response, per The Street .

“Our request to Cox Media Group is simple, don’t force your viewers who are our customers, to pay an unwarranted rate increase for ‘free’ news, sports and entertainment that is widely available on local station websites,” Salao reported .
