KETTERING, Ohio ( WDTN ) – When it’s lunchtime inside the Kettering Health incident command center, it’s likely to find a home cooked meal waiting to be served.
Charlene Hess, transportation on-time coordinator for Kettering Health , cooks meals to share with her coworkers nearly every day.
“I’ve always tried to be helpful, generous, good to the people that take care of me, I take care of them,” Hess said.

Hess said since she started cooking, it’s been a boost for camaraderie. She said she now gets requests from her co-workers for their favorite meals.
“I do it because I like to cook and I do it because they enjoy it and it brings us together,” Hess said.
Small gestures like this were celebrated on Saturday, which is recognized as National Random Acts of Kindness Day.
“Kindness is happening all around us,” Brooke Jones, vice president for the Random Acts of Kindness Foundation, said. “When you, kind of, choose intentionally to look for kindness and positivity, you will see it, and so I encourage people to take time to do that.”
