SPRINGFIELD, Ohio (WDTN) — The city of Springfield announced that police, fire and emergency service dispatch channels are now encrypted.
The city says that the decision was made to protect emergency responders, ensure efficient and effective communications, prevent the misuse of information and to comply with data protection standards.

The encryption of these emergency dispatch channels went into effect on Sunday, Sept. 22.
Encrypting these channels is not about withholding information but about safeguarding the integrity of our operations and ensuring that our first responders can perform their duties without the added risk of public interference.
