Recovery continues for homeowners, pets displaced by house fire

DAYTON, Ohio ( WDTN ) — More than a dozen cats were rescued from a house fire earlier this month on Joyce Driv e in Miami Township.

The cats were taken to the Humane Society of Greater Dayton for care. The Humane Society is working with the owner of the home to help them take the next steps in recovery.

2 NEWS spoke with the owners about how they’ve navigated the challenges of caring for themselves and their pets after the fire.

They say rebuilding is going to be a long road, but with the support of the community, the homeowner says he and his wife as well as the cats can make a full recovery.

George Johnson says 14 cats were recovered from the fire; five are still missing.

“Getting someplace for the cats. It’s been a challenge,” said Johnson.

His wife has been working to find a place for the cats to stay. In the meantime, the Humane Society is doing its best to support the family.

Despite the challenges, Johnson says he’s been faithfully continuing a ministry he’s been performing for years. Outside Moraine City First Church of God, he is ministering and giving love to others despite his own family’s tragedy.
