WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WDTN) — The owner of a longtime musical instrument store has died.
Gerald “Jerry” Hauer, 91, of Centerville, died Oct. 30, according to the obituary . Jerry was the owner and president of Hauer Music in Washington Township, which his father, Michael Hauer, founded in 1937 at a different location.
In the obituary, the president is described as being an involved volunteer all across the Dayton area.
“While managing the business, Jerry was an ardent community leader with an insatiable spirit of volunteerism,” said the obituary.
Some of the initiatives Hauer was involved in includes saving:
- Dayton State Hospital (now 10 Wilmington Place)
- NCR’s Building 26
- Wright Brothers first bicycle shop
Hauer Music posted to social media calling Jerry “The Music Man of Dayton,” while saying Jerry’s father was also dubbed that name.
A viewing will be held for Hauer on Nov. 11 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Routsong Funeral Home in Kettering. On Nov. 12 at 11 a.m., Hauer’s funeral service will be held at Holy Angels Church at 1322 Brown St. in Dayton. Burial will immediately follow at Calvary Cemetery in Kettering.
