DAYTON, Ohio ( WDTN ) — Many Miami Valley residents have enjoyed short-sleeved weather, but those snow chances will return in the coming months.
Making sure your heating device is working properly could save you some money down the road. Energy rates are at an all-time high, and one call could keep that wallet a bit thicker this winter.

While temperatures have generally been pretty warm so far this fall, it won’t stay that way for long. With winter on the way, and temperatures plunging below freezing, and getting an annual tune-up can ensure some savings.
“As long as your furnace is running an optimal performance, then we come out and check the gas, make sure everything’s set up right, and that’s what saves your energy,” said Zachary Rike, HVAC manager at Ed Rike Plumbing Heating & Air.
Those tune-ups are important not only to save money on energy bills but also to make sure the furnace is safe.
“We go through everything, basically. We go through your, like I said, your gas valve. We will set your gas pressure, check all your wiring for burnt wires, check contactors, capacitors and everything,” said Rike.
If you heat your house the old-school way, with a wood-burning heater, getting the chimney checked annually may not save you money on your bills, but can also prevent dangerous fires.
