WSU opens state’s first small business outreach center for veterans, military families

DAYTON, Ohio ( WDTN ) — Ohio veterans now have new resources to help turn their business ideas into reality.

Today, the Economic and Community Development Institute officially opened the state’s first-ever Veterans Business Outreach Center at Wright State University.

The center was funded by a $1 million grant from the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA). The aim is to provide essential training and counseling services to veteran and military-connected small business owners.

“It’s a really big deal. It’s a really big honor,” Seth Gordon, director of the Veteran and Military Center at Wright State University.

A venture that took two years to actualize is finally here and Gordon says it couldn’t have happened in a better place.

“The environment in the Dayton area and the Dayton region in general is very supportive of veterans,” said Gordon.

This support means helping veterans and their families achieve their dreams.

“Starting a business is jumping off into the unknown. You know, you hope it will be successful, but the more prepared you are and the more experience you have and the more access to information and other people, the better,” said Gordon.
