XENIA, Ohio (WDTN) — The Trades Institute at Emerge in Greene County is getting a half-a-million-dollar boost from the state.
It’s one of 16 facilities across Ohio to receive grant funding for technology-focused credentials.
School leaders say the new funding opens up a lot of opportunities. The $500,000 will go towards 40 scholarships—20 HVAC and 20 plumbing—putting 40 more technicians into the field, helping to fill the gaps in the fields of HVAC and plumbing.

“Our school is different in the way that we provide career coaching and support. This is more of like a community, like a family out here, a sense of belonging for our students. We keep our class sizes small so we can be intentional and really pour into these students, so, they not just get a job, but they get to keep that job and really succeed in life, not just in their career,” says Allison Steele, CEO of the Trades Institute. “The Trades Institute was created in order to take a really skilled based approach with the employers in mind.”
