Chaos at Huber Heights celebration: 2 injured in trash-can explosion, triggering panic

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – An exploding trash can injured two juveniles and caused panic at the Huber Heights Star-Spangled Celebration Saturday evening.

Officials working the event at Thomas Cloud Park said they received a report of an explosion in a trash can near the food truck area. They found that an unknown type of explosive device had detonated inside a trash can. Two juveniles were hurt in the explosion – minor injuries – and taken to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.

This incident is being investigated by the Huber Heights Police Division and the State Fire Marshal’s Office. Anyone with information is urged to call Lt. Brian Carr at 937-237-3578.
