Wrong way driver killed in 5-vehicle crash on I-75

BEAVERDAM, Ohio — A man driving the wrong way on I-75 died when his pickup truck collided head-on with a van near the exit for State Rt. 696.

Around 3 p.m. Tuesday, Donald Eckler, 82, of Lincolnton, N.C., was southbound in the northbound lanes of I-75 when he collided with a Sprinter van being driven by Yazan Aljayousi, 22, of Dearborn, Mich., according to the Lima Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

A northbound tractor-trailer driven by Douglas Smith, 53, of Bay City, Mich., then struck debris from the initial crash and collided with an SUV that had swerved to avoid the first crash. The SUV, driven by Sukhpal Dhaliwal, 40, of Tipp City, Ohio, then went off the right side of the roadway and overturned…
