Dayton police investigate viral video showing man violently attacking boy in van

DAYTON, Ohio (WKEF) — New video that’s gone viral in the last 24 hours is sparking anger and is now part of a local police investigation. The video itself is very hard to watch. It has been shared hundreds of times on Facebook and shows a man yelling obscenities and hitting a young boy in the backseat of a van. Dayton Police weighed in Friday, saying they’re aware of it and that the man in the video, Jeff Lemmings, was arrested last month.

“To see a baby who cannot defend himself have to be attacked so violently, that’s heartbreaking,” said Dayton community advocate, Shondale Atkinson.

Dayton Police said the video, which Dayton 24/7 Now has blurred and removed the sound from, was taken back in March 2024, showing an at-the-time eight-year-old boy upset in the backseat of a van. A man, identified by police as 45-year-old Jeffrey Lemmings, is then seen climbing back and hitting the boy repeatedly. Police said Lemmings can also be heard yelling at him…
