Dayton’s Germanfest Picnic celebrates heritage and community spirit

DAYTON, Ohio (WKEF) — The historic St. Anne’s Hill neighborhood in downtown Dayton is alive with the sights and sounds of the 2025 Germanfest Picnic, a beloved event that has been a staple in the Miami Valley for over 40 years. The festival celebrates the rich German heritage that has significantly contributed to the city’s foundation.

Debbie Venys, assistant chairperson of the Germanfest Picnic, highlighted the importance of the event. “A lot of the founding of the city of Dayton was done by a lot of immigrants from Germany. They really helped build the city,” she said.

The annual picnic draws over 10,000 attendees each year, offering a variety of experiences including a fashion show, authentic German food, beverages, music, and a booth dedicated to helping visitors trace their German heritage…
