Wright-Patterson AFB honors 9/11 victims with ‘Run for the Fallen’

WRIGHT-PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Ohio — A solemn tribute unfolded at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base as nearly 1,500 participants gathered for the annual “Run for the Fallen,” honoring those who lost their lives during the September 11th terrorist attacks and the subsequent War on Terror.

“As we gather here today, we pause to remember the events of September 11th and those whose lives were cut short on that day. We carry in our hearts the families, friends, and communities who continue to feel their absence,” said Capt. Brian Banks, the base chaplain, as he delivered a blessing over the event.

First Lieutenant Samantha Smith, the event organizer, emphasized the importance of remembrance. “Whether you remember it happening live or you learned it in school, it’s important for us to take a knee, to take a moment of silence to remember those lives lost and how it affected our country,” she said…
