DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – Dayton Public Schools’ temporary use of RTA bus passes remains despite the Ohio government’s attempts to overturn the ruling.
On Friday, Sept. 26, the magistrate overseeing the case ruled that the previously granted decision, which granted DPS temporary use of RTA bus passes, can stand due to concerns over student transportation and attendance levels without the RTA buses.
Why is DPS suing the State of Ohio over busing?
This update comes in response to the ongoing DPS v. Ohio case, as DPS pushes back against a piece of state legislation that it believes specifically targets the district.
Due to bus shortages, DPS high school students have been using RTA public transit to get to school since 2022. The district was able to pay for and give students free bus passes in the past, but this new amendment to the state budget aims to prevent that option…
