Ohio sees alarming rise in domestic violence deaths, experts urge action

DAYTON, Ohio (WKEF) — Reports of domestic violence led to a SWAT standoff in West Dayton on Tuesday evening, which ended peacefully. However, the Ohio Domestic Violence Network (ODVN) reports a dramatic increase in domestic violence deaths across the state, rising from 114 in 2024 to 157 in 2025. Maria York, policy director at ODVN, described the situation as “heartbreaking,” noting it was the deadliest year for such cases since 2015. In Montgomery County alone, nine domestic violence deaths occurred between July of last year and June of this year.
