WWII veteran celebrates 100th birthday in Yellow Springs

YELLOW SPRINGS, Ohio (WDTN) — A Yellow Springs man is celebrating a milestone this week in Yellow Springs.

Yellow Springs Mayor Pam Conine announced through a proclamation that Saturday, Dec. 6 is dedicated to the 100th birthday celebration of Edmond H. Vernot.

Vernot grew up in the Great Depression and served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II. The centenarian married Nancy Walford Whittemore after returning and later moved to the village from New York in 1964.

While residing in the village, Vernot worked at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base as a toxicologist. He was also an active volunteer in activities like the Board of Zoning Appeals, Lions Club and an instructor for senior citizen driving classes…
