DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – Multiple Miami Valley hospitals are telling people not to visit patients if they have symptoms of respiratory illnesses, including influenza, COVID-19 and other seasonal viruses.
These temporary restrictions will start on Dec. 26 and are being made because of a spike for theses illnesses in the Miami Valley. It will decrease the possible spread and protect vulnerable / immunocompromised patients.
According to the Greater Dayton Area Hospital Association (GDAHA) there are two visitor restrictions:
- Anyone experiencing coughing, fever, chills, headache, vomiting, sore throat, muscle aches or diarrhea may not visit.
- Anyone under 14 years old, even if they have their seasonal flu vaccine, may not visit.
“Our hospitals are taking proactive, temporary steps to protect patient safety and maintain access to care for our community,” said the president of the GDAHA, Sarah Hackenbracht. “We know how important it is for patients to have the support of loved ones, and these decisions are not made lightly. These measures help reduce the spread of illness and support our healthcare teams as they care for patients across the region.”…
