Sustainable Christmas tree disposal options available in the Miami Valley

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – This year, the Five Rivers MetroParks is not collecting natural Christmas trees.

Previously, the park has collected trees for its conservation team and the Ohio Department of Natural Resources. Then, the trees were sunk into Eastwood Lake and Possum Creek to help bolster the health / population of fish.

“Due to the overwhelming generosity of the community last year, MetroParks collected and sank so many trees it does not need to collect any this year,” wrote the parks team.

Other options for people looking to dispose of their tree in a sustainable way include dropping the tree off at a green recycling or composting facility. (Remove all lights / decorations, tree stands and plastic bags beforehand.)…
