Rash decision led to man’s 15-year sentence, judge says

A Springfield Township man convicted for a fatal shooting outside a West Toledo bar last year maintained at his sentencing Monday that he acted in self-defense, but the judge saw it differently.

“You’re going to spend the rest of your life looking at a split-second decision that is going to cost you a significant part of your freedom,” Judge Ian English told Amod Dawson, Jr., 30, in Lucas County Common Pleas Court.

But the 15-year sentence Kati Tharp, Dawson’s defense lawyer, negotiated with prosecutors doesn’t compare with victim Robert Boone’s loss on May 31, the judge said…
