Dayton moves ahead with solar and EV charging sites

DAYTON, Ohio (WKEF) — The City of Dayton is taking bold steps in meeting climate goals and local energy independence. City commissioners are moving forward with two projects in its commitment to environmental sustainability.

The City of Dayton signed an agreement to offtake energy from the Gem City Solar Project, a 49.9 megawatt solar energy installation with capacity to power approximately 14,000 homes in Dayton’s electric aggregation program. This will be one of the largest community choice solar projects within city limits in the United States.

“Nobody has had the opportunity to purchase a project this large within their city limits. So it’s setting us as a national leader of how we are not only caring for our residents in trying to get them lower price, but we’re also committed to procuring renewable energy,” said Meg Maloney, sustainability manager for the City of Dayton…
