Phil Donahue returns to WDTN studio after retirement: ‘Where it happened’

“If these walls could talk, they’d say, ‘You’re back again?’,” joked retired talk show host Phil Donahue during a visit to 2 NEWS Sunrise.

The host had begun the longtime “Phil Donahue Show” in the WDTN studio (when it was known as WLW-D) in 1967 before taking it to Chicago in 1974. While he knows he had returned to Dayton over the years since then, he couldn’t remember the last time he had walked the WDTN halls.

“It was neat this morning when you were pointing out, the chairs were here, the set was there,” said WDTN’s Jim Bucher. “It’s just so neat to think what happened here, what you did and the star power you brought in.”…
