Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office warns residents of phone scam

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about a phone scam happening throughout the Miami Valley.

The MCSO said the scammers have new tactics to appear more credible. The scammers are lying and telling their potential victims they are “MCSO Sgt. Scott Mullins” and calling from the phone number 937-355-5532. (They have also used other employee names and caller ID spoofing in previous scams.)

The scammers then frighten their victims by claiming they’d missed jury duty / a scheduled court appearance and must pay a fine immediately to avoid arrest.
