DAYTON, Ohio (WKEF) — For the seventh consecutive year, a group is making strides toward a cleaner, more beautiful Dayton.
Since 2019, the Living City Project, made up of several churches in the area, has chosen a day in April every year for hundreds of local residents to gather and clean up trash in the city. Dayton 24/7 Now’s Zeakia Jordan spoke with Marcy Walker, Ministry Director with Declare and one of the few organizers of the annual event, about what steps need to be taken to prepare for the big day of community service.
According to Walker, the event began to provide a way for local churches to partner with the city in a “tangible way.” She said when former City of Dayton Community Engagement Specialist, Verletta Jackson, was approached with the idea, she said the best way would be to help clean the streets.
