DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – The Dayton Police Department is warning residents to be vigilant following an increase in reports involving EBT card fraud and card skimming devices.
According to the DPD, criminals often use hidden skimmer devices to steal card information and PIN numbers, which allow unauthorized purchases or withdrawals from a victim’s account.
In many recent cases, fraudulent transactions were reported shortly after the card had likely been skimmed.

The DPD encourages residents to:
- Inspect card readers before use. If anything appears unusual, do not use the machine.
- Monitor your account regularly for unauthorized transactions.
- Use secure or chip-enabled payment options when possible.
- Report suspicious devices or fraudulent activity immediately to law enforcement and your card provider.
If you believe your EBT card has been compromised, contact your benefits provider immediately to report the fraud and request a replacement card…
