A Fulton County jury found former East Point police sergeant Richard Gooddine guilty on five felony counts following a retrial involving the assault and intimidation of a teenager.
The convictions include aggravated sexual battery, child molestation, enticing a child for indecent purposes and two counts of threatening or causing harm to hinder or delay testimony or prosecution.
Prosecutors said the case centered on conduct that occurred while Gooddine was on duty. Jurors heard testimony about police transport procedures, dispatch records, forensic testing and Gooddine’s conduct at a hospital after the reported assault.
East Point police fired Gooddine in 2018, and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation opened a case at the department’s request. The September 8 verdict followed a retrial in Fulton County.
