Affordable Housing Under Construction in Decatur

A new project aims to bring affordable housing to Decatur.

The first phase of the development called Village at Legacy , which includes 66 units via garden-style apartments and duplexes, has begun vertical construction, Urbanize Atlanta reports . The units would be spread across several two-story and three-story buildings. The site is southeast of Downtown Decatur.

Decatur Housing Authority is serving as developer of the project. According to DHA, the city purchased the 77-acre site (the former United Methodist Children’s Home) in 2017. They then conducted a planning process to create a master plan for Legacy Park. The City of Decatur will continue to own the land, entering a long-term ground lease with DHA for the housing project.

According to a site map, phase one, called the South Housing Village, is located at the corner of South Columbia Drive and Katie Kerr Drive. Construction on phase one is expected to be complete in summer 2025. The next phase, called the North Housing Village, is slated to include another 66 units.
