The 89-year-old Marietta woman who disappeared from her assisted care facility Friday night was discovered dead in a pond at Kennesaw Memorial Park Monday morning, according to Marietta Police.
Patricia Miele was last seen around 11 p.m. Friday at Greenwood Assisted Living and Memory Care Facility on Whitlock Avenue, roughly a half-mile from where she was found by a pair of walkers shortly after 11 a.m. Monday.
Marietta Police Public Information Officer Chuck McPhilamy said the couple who discovered Miele’s body had left the house with plans to go to the gym, but rerouted to the cemetery.
“They started to drive to the gym and just decided they couldn’t do that, their hearts were heavy and they wanted to help. He has family members that are buried there, and he thought that, well, let me go pay my respects and we’ll walk the grounds and get our exercise that way. They were the couple that ultimately made the discovery this morning,” McPhilamy said.
That couple was among the hundreds of community members that aided in search efforts for Miele since she was reported missing Saturday morning.
