Homicide suspect dead after SWAT standoff, shelter in place lifted in Griffin

A homicide suspect is dead and police have canceled a shelter in place alert after a SWAT standoff in Spalding County.

The standoff happened along Ashley Drive with Griffin police and Spalding deputies assisting a Jonesboro police investigation. Officials have not identified the suspect, but said he was wanted in connection to a woman’s death in Jonesboro.

“We’ve been out here several hours with a standoff and since then, the suspect did turn the gun on himself when we went to close in on him with the SWAT team,” Jonesboro Police Chief C.E. Cato said…
