Invasive spotted lanternfly poses major threat to Georgia agriculture, UGA says

ATLANTA — An invasive insect from Asia that was first spotted in the U.S. in Pennsylvania more than a decade ago is now spreading into Georgia, according to UGA.

The spotted lanternfly was first detected in Fulton County last fall, according to an article published this week by UGA. Sightings in Georgia were reported this year back in April.

While it doesn’t pose any threat to people and sports ana bright, colorful pattern on its wings, it can be deeply harmful to agriculture…
