Atlanta Man Suspected of Ellenwood Murder Apprehended, Faces Malice Murder and Multiple Other Charges

Authorities in DeKalb County have apprehended 42-year-old Marcus Overstreet, an Atlanta resident, in a grim case that has shocked the local community. Overstreet was arrested last Tuesday, July 22, for his suspected involvement in the December 2024 murder of Mario Culver, whose body was found inside a vehicle set ablaze in Ellenwood. FOX 5 Atlanta reports that the arrest was the result of cooperation between the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Fugitive Unit, the U.S. Marshals, and South Fulton Police SWAT, taking place at an apartment complex on Flat Shoals Road in Union City.

According to the details provided by the On Common Ground News, Overstreet is now facing malice murder charges for the shooting death of Culver, a 36-year-old from Lithonia. The incident, which took place on December 22, 2024, concluded with Culver’s body being discovered in a flaming car on Wilson Avenue in Atlanta. Additionally, Overstreet’s criminal history is stained with previous misdemeanor charges for family violence-related simple assault and battery from two individual incidents in the months leading up to the murder.

Marcus Overstreet is also grappling with multiple outstanding warrants in Fulton County. He’s charged with murder, armed robbery, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.
