A Jonesboro neighborhood was thrust into an alarming situation this past Wednesday when a SWAT situation unfolded following a welfare check at a local residence. Reporting from FOX 5 Atlanta reveals that the police were initially summoned to perform a welfare check on a 7-year-old boy, which rapidly escalated to a tactical operation. The Cobb County Police Department coordinated the response that included the SWAT unit’s deployment to the scene at the home on Emerald Drive in Jonesboro.

According to Atlanta News First, eyewitness Barahn Logan saw “cop car after cop car enter Emerald Drive,” giving an account of a significant police presence that cut through the afternoon stillness. Logan, from his vantage point across the street, could hear commands blared from a loudspeaker, urging someone to “Please come out with your hands up.”
