‘Double whammy’: Shutdown halts SNAP job training funds as Goodwill steps in to keep its program going

DECATUR, Ga. — With federal funding for SNAP programs frozen during the government shutdown, some Georgians required to work to keep their benefits are facing new challenges.

Guy Hoops has relied on SNAP benefits for approximately six months amid side jobs. He’s now training for his commercial driver’s license at Goodwill of North Georgia through the SNAP Employment and Training program.
