Georgia eyes $50M homelessness fund as DeKalb study reveals thousands living in motels

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — Georgia’s governor announced plans Tuesday to create a $50 million statewide grant fund aimed at reducing homelessness — and at least one DeKalb County commissioner said she’s eager to learn more.

The announcement comes just days after county leaders received what Commissioner Michelle Long Spears called, an “eye-opening report.”

According to the study, more than 4,600 DeKalb residents are living long-term in motels, a population left out of official homelessness counts…
