Exhibit tells ‘strong visual story’ of Memorial Drive

Memorial Drive for more than 90 years has been a major artery of the Atlanta area. It winds through such historic neighborhoods as Kirkwood, Belvedere, and East Lake, and touches such landmarks as East Lake Golf Club.

Time has seen many changes in the shops, restaurants, offices, and residences along Memorial Drive’s approximately 15-mile path. An exhibit currently at the DeKalb County History Center features images of present-day Memorial Drive.

“The exhibit showcases a vibrant sampling of the people and places that make Memorial Drive the animated, multicultural community it is today,” notes an introduction to the exhibit. “Peter Essick’s modern photography and gathered objects from local businesses represent an imaginative means to view this historic corridor. This strong visual story is also supported by the history of how and why Memorial Drive came to be.”…
