DeKalb sheriff reports 57-year-old inmate died at county jail after being found unresponsive in cell

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — A 57-year-old inmate died in custody Sunday at the DeKalb County Jail, the sheriff’s office reported Monday.

DeKalb County Sheriff Melody M. Maddox said Micahel Gafa, who had been in custody since September, died after being found unresponsive in his cell.

“On-site medical staff and DeKalb EMS responded immediately; however, Mr. Gafa was pronounced deceased at the scene,” a release from the sheriff’s office said…
