Cobb deputies: treasurer stole thousands from Acworth, Powder Springs Masonic lodges

Michael Sampsell, 61, of Rockmart, is accused of stealing thousands of dollars from the bank accounts of two Masonic groups, according to an arrest warrant from the Cobb County Sheriff’s Office.

Sampsell was the treasurer for the Cherokee Chapter No. 13 Royal Arch Masons, 13 Trillium Lane in Acworth, and in charge of funds in the chapter’s bank accounts.

Sampsell made fraudulent ATM withdrawals from the account totaling $31,360, sent $2,840 to himself via Zelle, wrote two checks totaling $45,000 and deposited it into the Springville Masonic Lodge No. 153’s bank account between Aug. 31, 2021, and Aug. 31, 2025, according to the warrant…
