Denver high school for pregnant, parenting teens cuts ribbon on new community garden

DENVER — Florence Crittenton High School celebrated the opening of a new community garden Friday, giving pregnant and parenting teen students a hands-on outdoor learning space in Denver’s Valverde neighborhood.

The project, known as “Gals Who Garden,” brought together seven raised garden beds, vegetable gardens, pollinator gardens and a food forest on school grounds at 55 S. Zuni St. Community organizations, Denver Public Schools partners, neighborhood leaders and students gathered for a ribbon cutting and public open house.

The garden was designed specifically for Florence Crittenton students — a school that serves young mothers — with wide, accessible pathways allowing students to push strollers.
