2 in Jefferson County charged with $12M in Medicaid vision fraud

DENVER (KDVR) — Attorney General Phil Weiser announced on Tuesday that two men from Jefferson County face several charges relating to $12 million in alleged Medicaid fraud.

According to a release, 33-year-old James Heath and 37-year-old Jared Heath are charged with defrauding Colorado’s Medicaid vision program of over $12 million through their business.

The following charges were outlined:

  • Six counts of Medicaid fraud and waste
  • Five counts of cybercrime
  • One count of money laundering

“Defrauding Medicaid directly harms the public, particularly Coloradans who rely on the program for basic healthcare,” Weiser said via the release. “Those who do so must be held to account and it is important that the consequences for this alleged criminal activity be meaningful.”

The allegations claim that from 2021 to 2025, the Heaths’ company, Quickspex LLC, billed Medicaid for 937 frames and other vision-related services for its top 10 patients; however, many confirmed that they didn’t receive anything, or at most, four pairs of glasses.

According to the release, the Heaths received over $14 million in reimbursements into a bank account, and used it to purchase a home, vehicles and a diamond company…
