Kittredge smokehouse reopens one week after flash flood with help from community

KITTREDGE, Colo. — One week after a flash flood sent water and mud through the town of Kittredge, the Switchback Smokehouse is serving customers again.

The restaurant, which sits along Bear Creek, reopened after employees, friends and community members spent days cleaning up damage left behind by last week’s flooding.

“All the tables have been lifted up,” owner Darryl Swarts said. The force of the water pushed everything into the back corner. Yeah, it’s just chaos pretty much. It wasn’t any semblance of a normal-looking patio.”…
