CDOT gives update on major I-70 project between Evergreen and Idaho Springs

EVERGREEN, Colo. (KDVR) – The Colorado Department of Transportation took the FOX31 team behind the scenes for an update on the major project on Interstate 70 that will improve traffic between Evergreen and Idaho Springs.

“The Project will deliver a third westbound I-70 travel lane, which will function as an Express Lane, to improve the current two-lane bottleneck,” Stacia Sellers, the Major Projects Communications Lead with CDOT stated in a press release.

The construction project has hit its midway point three years after construction started. According to CDOT, drivers have expressed good feedback about the changes and improvements in safety.

Once complete, the lanes of I-70 currently in that area will be turned into a frontage road. The new interstate will be elevated and above the current road, the lanes will also cross each other. CDOT said improvements to the corridor are helping drivers now be able to see the future alignment of I-70 being built in real time…
