A Denver Police officer on Wednesday was charged with harassment after allegedly hitting a child who was in custody late last year.
Thirty-two-year-old Dat Truong was charged by the 17th Judicial District Attorney’s Office in Adams County, according to a news release.
The incident happened on Nov. 3, 2023, near I-225 and Colfax Avenue, authorities said.
Denver Police placed Truong on non-patrol assignment on Nov. 6 when an investigation was launched into the incident. Truong will remain in that role until the case makes its way through the legal system, police said.
Truong joined the Denver Police Department in 2014 and was most recently assigned to its Special Operations Division, police said.
An administrative review will begin after the case is adjudicated, police said.
Truong is due back in court on March 5.
No other details about the incident were immediately available.
