DENVER (KDVR) — A family is in mourning and shock after 60-year-old Richard Sanchez was shot and killed on an RTD bus last month — and then learning the suspect is just 13 years old.
Sanchez’s family said on Jan. 27, he had left home shortly before the shooting to run an errand, and when he didn’t come home, they started to worry. When they went to police to file a missing persons report, a detective told them of his death.

His two daughters, Miranda and Krystal Sanchez, spoke with FOX31 on Wednesday night and spoke of the pain they’ve felt these last few weeks.
“Everything in our house reminds us of him. You know, looking out the window and opening the curtains. You know, just the little things.” Krystal said.
RTD bus shooting: Family wants teen tried as adult
Police say there was a verbal altercation between Richard and the teen about his leg blocking the aisle on the bus before the 13-year-old s hot him.
“It was a shock to us, like it was heartbreaking to know that there are these young boys out there carrying guns, and it’s just unbelievable. How could he do this without knowing someone? And over a foot being in the aisle, like an elderly. Like not so much elderly, but 60 years old — he was a grandpa,” Krystal said.
