Report: Denver has the hottest housing market in the nation

DENVER (KDVR) — Denver was ranked as the hottest housing market in the nation by U.S. News and World Report, according to an analysis released Monday.

The reporter looked at metropolitan statistical areas, which groups together communities in a specific geographic location. The Denver-Aurora-Lakewood MSA was given a score of 74.8, which U.S. News said was up 7 points year-over-year.

North Carolina and Texas both have three MSAs in the top 5.

The ranking used the U.S. News Housing Market Index, which looks at several data points, such as supply and demand. Metropolitan areas are given a score between 1 and 100 based on data from December 2023.

  • No. 3 – Virginia Beach, Virginia
  • No. 4 – Durham, North Carolina
  • No. 5 – Charlotte, North Carolina

  • No. 7 – Houston, Texas
  • No. 8 – Portland, Oregon
  • Tie 9 – Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas (tie)
  • Tie 9 – San Antonio, Texas (tie)
