Deion Sanders and Colorado Athletic Department Call Fight Song Allegation ‘Completely False’

Deion Sanders and the University of Colorado athletic department have denied a report about Sanders allegedly telling the band not to play the fight song.

After Colorado football’s 28-10 loss to Nebraska, 104.3 The Fan writer Jake Shapiro claimed in an article that the team lacked “fight.” He went on to say that the team’s lack of fight even went as far as Sanders telling the band not to play the school’s fight song after his son — quarterback Shedeur Sanders — throws touchdown passes. He did so, Shapiro continued, to make sure Shedeur’s own song could be played in the stadium.

Hours after that article was published, commentator Roland Martin reached out to Sanders directly for his response. In addition to refuting the allegation, Sanders claimed Shapiro “has had a bone to pick since I arrived.”

“This is a lie,” Sanders said in a text to Martin. “Please ask them to report who I told this to. There’s no ACCOUNTABILITY in that business anymore. None! This is also a guy that has had a bone to pick since I arrived. God bless him. They all want & need attention in this dying day of media jockeying for stability.”
