Denver police: Roommate investigated for man’s death thought to be drug overdose

DENVER ( KDVR ) — Denver police arrested a 28-year-old man on the investigation of a murder after officers responded to a possible drug overdose where the victim was pronounced dead on scene.

According to the Denver Police Department, officers were notified of an emergency medical situation on Friday at about 10:30 p.m. involving a possible drug overdose at 5225 N. Vasquez Blvd. The address is for a Triple A Motel.

According to the Denver agency, first responders attempted life-saving medical care, but the victim, an adult male, died at the scene.

While investigating the death, the Office of the Medical Examiner performed an autopsy on Saturday. Investigators found evidence the victim had suffered injuries, including internally, that were “consistent with significant trauma.”

The injuries led to police arresting the victim’s roommate on Saturday. The roommate, Dakotah Lulei, 28, is being held for investigation of second-degree murder and second-degree assault. Circumstances for the homicide remain under investigation.
