After ‘shock’ of being waived by Saints, WR A.T. Perry seeks to show Broncos he “can do everything’

ENGLEWOOD – Wide receiver A.T. Perry is on the Broncos’ practice squad but that hasn’t hampered his confidence.

“I’m a playmaker,’’ he said after Thursday’s practice at Broncos Park. “I’m a baller. I feel like I can do everything. Like run routes playing outside, slot, tight end. I just want to stretch the field, just get open.”

Perry showed signs of doing those things in limited action last season on New Orleans’ active roster. Playing in 10 games as a rookie, he caught just 12 passes but averaged a whopping 20.5 yards and scored four touchdowns.

But the Saints surprisingly waived Perry last Friday because they needed a roster spot to sign center Connor McGovern off the New York Jets’ practice squad. They wanted to sign Perry to their practice squad but he instead reached a deal Tuesday to join Denver’s squad. He signed Wednesday and took part in his first practice.

“From the coaching standpoint, they felt like that in practice I wasn’t making enough plays,” said Perry, inactive for the Saints’ first four games this season. “It was kind of confusing for me. I just wanted to play in the offense. (Quarterback Derek Carr) was just throwing the ball around. I just wanted to be a part of that. Unfortunately, it wasn’t.”
