Critical penalty called on Broncos in Week 10 looks even more absurd from new camera angle

The Denver Broncos had the Kansas City Chiefs beaten on Sunday, but a blocked field goal by the Chiefs on the game’s final play put an end to those hopes. However, it was a bad call in the second quarter of this game that may have been even more difficult to accept.

With the Broncos in complete control and leading the game 14-3, the Chiefs faced a 3rd-and-9 from the Denver 33-yard line. Nik Bonitto bolted through and sacked Patrick Mahomes for a loss of 11 yards, knocking the Chiefs out of field goal range. The Chiefs would have had to punt to Denver, who could have tried to muster up some more points before halftime.

There was just one problem. There was a flag thrown on the play against Broncos safety Brandon Jones for illegal contact against Travis Kelce. This was an interesting call, considering how quickly Bonitto got to Mahomes. How could there have been illegal contact that fast? Even more interesting was the fact that the CBS telecast chose not to show a replay of the penalty.
