New Year’s party ‘horn’ just ‘Reveille’ at Buckley base in Aurora, others report midnight gunshots

A tourist staying in Aurora posted on Reddit New Year’s Day that she thought she was “hallucinating” when she awoke to a daily ritual in the city. “Was anybody else woken up by the horn on Kentucky Avenue?” posted Few_Radish8790. “If whomever played that horn happens to read this subreddit, you got good skills. Happy New Year.”

In response, Aurorans began to post about the gunshots they heard last night. Finally, someone posted that the New Year party horn was just “Reveille” at Buckley Space Force Base.

“I fell asleep around 10 p.m. last night, woke up at 12 a.m. to multiple gunshots,” posted Routine-Mycologist-3. “I live on Exposition and Peoria. Granted, I rarely hear gunshots around here personally, I expect nothing less on New Years. I wish I would have awoken to a horn instead!”

“I woke up to gunshots at Iliff and Buckley,” posted Muircertach. He later posted that the police showed up about 30 minutes later and were looking for shell casings.

Gunshots in Aurora have become common in the city’s first ward. They often are reported outside apartment buildings in the city that house Venezuelan migrants. The migrants also have been known to fire guns into the air during celebrations. Gunshots rang out when the migrants gathered in the parking lot of an Aurora Target to “celebrate” the Venezuelan elections.
